SHEAX™ ORGANIC BAR SOAPS
ARE CLINICALLY TESTED FOR SKIN SENSITIZATION
INDEPENDENT TESTING. MEASURABLE OUTCOMES
SheaX™ Body Cleansing Bars were evaluated in an independent clinical study designed to answer a simple question:
Can repeated skin contact with SheaX™ cause irritation or sensitization over time?

WHAT THE STUDY EVALUATED
The study assessed whether repeated skin contact with SheaX™ Bar soap variants could cause irritation or sensitization over time.
Conducted By
An Independent clinical research organization
Study Period
20th May 2024 - 1 July 2024 - 4 variants
13th Feb 2026 - 15 April 2026 - 2 variants
Test Preparations
Each test article was diluted with 8% deionized water for patch testing.
Method
Each test article ( SheaX Bar soap variants) were assessed for skin compatibility under occlusive conditions using Finn Chambers or equivalent occlusive patch systems. Participants received nine induction patch applications, each worn for 47 or 71 hours over a 3-week induction period. This was followed by a 2-week rest phase. Challenge patches were subsequently applied for 48 hours. Skin reactions were evaluated at 1 hour and 48 hours post-removal
KEY CLINICAL FINDINGS
No questionable reactions during the challenge phase
No questionable reactions were observed during challenge (Days 38 and 40)
During induction, reactions were limited to “barely visible” redness
Test articles elicited barely visible erythematous reactions during the induction phase.
Overall assessment: low potential for irritation and sensitization
Under the conditions of the study, results supported a low potential for irritation and sensitization.
No adverse events or adverse reactions reported
The HRIPT patch test demonstrated excellent skin tolerance with no adverse findings.
A QUICK CLARIFICATION
why “barely visible redness” is an acceptable sensitization result in the induction phase for a cleansing bar
Important context:
In the test, SheaX™ bars were diluted with 8% water and applied under an occlusive patch and kept in contact with the skin for extended wear—often 47–71 hours during induction, followed by a 48-hour challenge patch. That’s very different from real-life use. SheaX™ bars are a rinse-off product, where contact time is typically minutes—not days- and also diluted with more water. So it’s normal—and expected—that a rinse-off product can produce very mild, barely visible erythema (redness) when it’s held against the skin under occlusion for long periods with minimal dilution.
Why the challenge phase matters most
The main question in sensitization testing like this is whether repeated exposure leads to stronger, questionable reactions during the challenge phase—which would suggest the skin has become sensitized and is reacting more intensely over time. In this study, no questionable reactions were observed during the challenge phase.
Bottom line: The study supports a low potential for irritation and sensitization, even under prolonged, occluded exposure that goes far beyond typical rinse-off use. This result can be attributed to the high shea butter content and supper fatting of SheaX™ bars
WHAT THIS MEANS
The study supports that SheaX™ Bar Soaps are suitable for repeated skin contact , including for individuals with sensitive skin.
What it doesn’t mean
This study does not measure moisturizing, barrier metrics, or “treatment” outcomes (it is not an acne / eczema treatment study).
Individual experiences can still vary—especially with fragrance / essential oil sensitivity, exfoliating particles, or personal allergies.
Why this matters
If you’ve ever reacted to a “natural” bar—or you’re simply cautious with what you use daily—sensitization testing helps answer a key question:
Will repeated contact with this product make skin progressively more reactive over time?
For the 100+ volunteers in this study, the answer was NO for all 4 variants of SheaX™ Bar Soaps tested.
FAQs
What you need to know about SheaX™
Is this the same type of test used for “hypoallergenic” claims?
Repeat insult patch testing is commonly used to evaluate irritation and sensitization potential over repeated exposure, which supports those types of claims.
Were sensitive-skin participants included?
Yes. 50% of the participant panel had self-assessed sensitive skin.
Did you test multiple SheaX bars or just the Sheax Base?
All Four SheaX bar variants were included in the study.
Where and when was the study conducted?
The clinical study was performed by an independent testing lab in 2024 and 2026.
